of our Međugorje
Pilgrimage
Welcome to the continuation of our pilgrimage to Međugorje. Do you remember that I mentioned the clouds seemed to be gathering as we got on the bus? Well they did more than gather. On our first full day, it rained. Not just a little, but quit a bit. Totally out of character for this time of year too. However, the weather was nice the rest of the time in Međugorje so I guess we can't complain too much.
I'm
not going to go through each day with a schedule of events. Suffice it to say
that the group went to Mass every day at 10:00 am except Sunday at 12:00 noon.
Saint James Catholic Church (the main church for Međugorje,
of which there are many within the city) is very beautiful and centrally located
from Jakov's home. We normally walked to and from town as needed. About a 15 to
20 minute walk on nice paths. Because there are so many travelers in Međugorje,
the church performs many Masses each day, each in a different language. Usually
starting with Croatian, then German, English, and Italian. Each Mass that we
went to included somewhere between 20 and 30 priests on the alter. Father Bill
performed one Mass and Father Thuerauf did the reading. Below are more pictures
of Saint James Church. (Remember you may click on any thumbnail to view a larger
version).

and statue of the Virgin Mary at Saint James Church in Međugorje

Inside of Saint James Church just after
the end of Mass.
Note Father Thuerauf between the statues of Saint James and Saint Anthony.
The statue of Saint James is on the alter as he is the patron saint of the
church.
Saint Anthony was placed in front of the alter as we were in Međugorje
during the 'Feast of Saint Anthony'.

Saint James front and side entrances.
Just to the left of this area is a large sitting area for overflow seating
during Mass.
Then a collection of many confessionals that are available every evening.

The bell towers of Saint James church in Međugorje.
They have beautiful bells that are rung each day at noon. You can be hear them
for miles.

Would you like to listen to the bells?
Behind the church is a meeting hall that
can host large groups.
Inside is a painting of the Virgin Mary as described by the Visionaries.
