Posy's Cancer Report
August 19, 2000

Hi Again to all,

Just another quick report about Posy. She is feeling better, but is pretty weak. This is obviously caused by the anemia from the chemotherapy, the cancer and the chemotherapy itself. The Epogen should help that, but all indications of my research says that it takes from 2 to 6 weeks before there is a marked increase in red blood cells. The red blood cells carry oxygen to the body. With a decrease in red cells, there is a similar decrease in oxygen, therefore she gets tired very quickly.

The liquid in her lung and abdoman has seemed to disappear. She hasn't needed to be 'drained' for quite some time, so that's good. She never liked the big needles anyway.

The CA-125 test came in and it was 147 - down from the 156 of last time, but disappointing. The doctor expected a much better decline. So, the chemo is doing some work but may not be enough. We are scheduled to visit a gynecological oncologist on the 25th for a second opinion and to help guide us as to our next step. Our current oncologist has ordered another CT scan for Tuesday, so that both he and the other oncologist can compare the before treatment and after 3 treatments progress using the CT scan. Then the two will discuss what is the best approach for continuing therapy for Posy. They want to step back and reconsider all data, reports, and tests to make certain that they are doing all they can. We still have our appointment for the next chemo on August 31 if they decide to continue on that track rather than some other type of chemo or another process altogether.

I will keep you all informed when we hear anything new. It will probably be more than a week before we hear anything even though tests will be continuing. You know hurry up and wait!

Thanks

Bob
